The Key Understandings of the Eucharist Sacrament
These key understandings have been obtained from the Catholic Education Office Melbourne. (2008). Coming to Know, Worship and Love: Level 3. By the end of Level 3, students will have an understanding of:
The Key Understandings of Eucharist at Level 3 (KWL, 2008)
1. The signs of the bread and wine and the rituals of consecration and communion, and the meaning of these for Christians
2. The sacred objects of the Mass, e.g. chalice, ciborium, paten, lectern, lectionary
3. The relationship between the Last Supper and the Mass
4. In the Liturgy of the Word the community listens and responds to the Word of God
5. In the Liturgy of the Eucharist the community is fed and united through the Body and Blood of Christ
6. The main parts of the Mass and their meaning: Introductory Rite; Liturgy of the Word; Liturgy of the Eucharist; Concluding Rites or that we gather, we listen, we give thanks, we receive and we depart
7. The significance of Scripture, symbols, images, signs and action with the Sacrament of Eucharist
8. The main elements of a scripture text: characters, events, key words, actions and symbols, and how these relate to the understanding and practices of the Eucharist
